Preliminary score on this OH buck is 260???

WOW that’s amazing! You are looking at OH’s Putnam family, all of whom deer-hunt…seriously! 16-yr-old Carson put that one down on the 2nd day of the 2021 OH youth season. NA Whitetail with some deets:
> When Carson finally saw the deer himself it was late in the day. The buck was out in a field with a group of does over a half-mile away. As he peered through his spotting scope, Carson was sure the deer was far bigger than any he had taken before, but he was still uncertain as to how much larger. So, Carson planned to get closer, and the real hunt began.
> The group of deer were milling in and out of a small woodlot – the only cover available in the area. Carson knew this was where he needed to be to take a shot, so he slipped in quietly with [his dad] and settled in.
> Within minutes, the two were staring at a giant non-typical, far bigger than anyone had expected. It was go time!
> Carson shouldered his CVA single shot…buck soaked up his 450 Bushmaster round and ran back into the woodlot for cover.
> …followed the trail, but they jumped the buck out of his death bed. So they had no choice but to back out….
> After a few hours of patiently waiting, the pair headed back after the buck. Upon returning to the woodlot, Carson and Brad bumped the buck and saw that the non-typical wasn’t lethally hit. Carson quickly finished off the giant, and the pair walked up on the buck of a lifetime.
Good job Putnam family wow!

By far the biggest NC deer we’ve seen this season! 🤯
|
|
> Clark shot the buck with a 7mm Mag around 5 pm while hunting out of a box blind on the ground. The deer walked into the edge of a field bordering some woods when Clark spotted him about 100 yards away.
> It showed up a few times on his trail cameras over the years, but he had never laid eyes on the buck while hunting. “I only had this buck on camera a few times this year, and very rarely before in years past. This buck was not patternable at all.
> “We knew it would be a ‘hunt a ton and get lucky’ scenario. And it was just that. I believe he was checking scrape lines.”
AMAZING deer dude wow!

Monster 17-point out of MN killed by 3 hunters??
|
|
> DeBeltz said the buck was about 230 yards away and he decided to take a shot. “I didn’t think we could get any closer so I took a shot and I think I hit it.”
> …the deer was downwind and looked like it didn’t know which way to go. “It walked across the trail and then it started coming our way so I told those two, get your guns up and when it comes into the clearing we’re all going to shoot.”
> …the buck came out much closer and within range of the trio of hunters. “We all shot and there were 3 holes in the deer. The kids were pretty excited and the deer went down.”

TenPoint releases the fastest x-bow yet.
|
|
Called the Nitro 505 because it goes 505 fps. The deets:
> This perfectly balanced reverse-draw crossbow delivers unheard of speeds of 505 fps with a 400-grain arrow and features the…ACUslide silent-cocking and safe de-cocking system.
> …measures an ultra-compact 6.5″ wide and 30.7″ long, and delivers never before seen power of 227 ft-lbs of kinetic energy.
> …patented reverse-draw bow assembly is the heart of the Nitro 505…powered by the new RX8-Cam system that rotates an industry-leading 404 degrees. The new cam system features deeper cable grooves and improved cable spacing which allows for an increased strand count on string and cables for added strength and durability at these unprecedented speeds.
> …Vector-Quad cable technology utilizes 4 cables instead of the traditional 2 which eliminates cam lean and generates straight-nock travel leading to same-hole downrange accuracy.
> The cocking system features a NEW Dyneema cocking strap which has been upgraded to handle over 2,000 lbs of force…2 times stronger than the previous-generation strap. The 7.5″ XTEND Adjustable Crank Handle reduces cocking effort to 5 lbs and stores securely in butt-stock.
> …S1 trigger. This 2-stage, zero-creep design features an advanced roller-sear system that delivers a consistent crisp, 3.5-lb pull. The trigger is equipped with a DFI (Dry-Fire-Inhibitor) and is fitted with a nylon-filament arrow retention brush that improves arrow grip and alignment to reduce noise and vibration.
> The NEW 20-inch MICRO-TRAC fluted aluminum barrel reduces the flight deck surface by 50%.

So predator removal does NOT affect fawn survival? 🤔
|
|
> Tess Gingery of the PA Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit reviewed data from 20 studies with reported fawn survival over 3 to 6 months. They found that studies that manipulated predator densities found little or no effect on fawn survival and recruitment. Interesting, since hunters are so keyed to the idea of shooting coyotes to help fawn survival.
> Ms. Gingery suggested factors that influence physiological condition of fawns may better explain why fawns exposed to no predators have mortality risks similar to those exposed to 3 or more predator species.
> This doesn’t mean predation is unimportant, but rather points out that reduction of predator numbers does not guarantee increased fawn survival because there are so many other variables that can affect fawns.

Actually ended up being a 15-point, field-dressed weight of 220 lbs, green-scored right at 200″. 🤯 His buds sorta put him on the buck because Danny came back from a real bad case of Covid – glad you’re still with us brother! Full story at OL:

Amazing deer, don’t know anything about the story but aged at 4.5 years old by Wildlife Labs:
|
|
…and it paid off! 👊 140-class 10-point weighed a lean 210:
|
|
Looked up after the first week, now down after the second. 5,485 fewer deer than 2020.
70,413 vs 71,659 last year.
But still was way above average.
…but 1,500 more non-rez whitetail-only tags are still available.
Christian dude, very cool. 🙏✝️
…at the Johnny Morris Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium.
> Chuck’s velvet sitka blacktail deer scored an amazing 109 7/8” and is now the largest bow-killed velvet typical sitka blacktail deer in North America. This amazing deer was shot on Kodiak Island in AK on Aug 12, 2021.
|
|
> The investigators collected black-legged ticks (also known as deer ticks) at the sites of exposure. Thurston County became the 4th known county in NE to identify black-legged tick populations.
14. 2A stuff.
Looks like CA, NY and NJ arethe worst. Seems like they encroach on the Constitution, copy one another and then the other Dem gov’nors will do the same. Been happening!
15. Keep an eye on…

Deer Disease News
…to help stop the spread of CWD. Dec 15-Feb 15.
> …changes Crockett County from high risk to positive for CWD, and Dyer County changes to high risk due to its proximity. …deer in McNairy County within a mile of the Hardin County line changes Hardin County to high-risk status.
Who will pay for it??

$2,500-ish – here’s the bottom line:
> …an accurate rifle which handles wonderfully and has all the features needed to handle just about any hunting situation. Personally I have no complaints whatsoever….
> I am…a fan of controlled-round-feed actions, but…among the push-feed designs the Model 21 ranks high in my estimation. Feeding, extraction and ejection were all flawless, the rifle was an absolute pleasure to use in a bunch of different hunting situations, and I think it’s a good-looking rifle.
> It is impervious to weather, and carried very well around the hills and valleys of Molokai, handling precision shots out to 250 yards and rushed shots from an improvised rest inside 100 yards.
|
|
> …incorporates Black Gold’s Pro Pin, providing a more defined aiming point and less target obstruction, now in a single-pin option. What sets this apart is the second pro pin, providing an additional quick aiming point without the need to move the dial.

|
> The Dec Buck of the Month is an exclusive 112 Ranger. This knife features a S45VN satin finish blade, genuine Koa wood and screw together construction.
|
|
> By Dec in much of whitetail country, studies reveal the majority of does are bred with approximately 10% of the females possibly returning to estrus before Christmas. One doe emitting the scent of estrus captures the lusty attention of every buck within smellable distance.
> …consider placing a doe decoy in your location along with a scent wick dipped in a doe-in-heat concoction such as Golden Estrus. Deer calls, grunts, bleats and rattling provide attention-grabbing auditory cues for upwind deer that miss the decoy advertisement.
> Bucks can easily shed up to 25% of their weight in the rut. When the available doe market decreases, bucks soon return their focus to food and rest. Does also return to a heavy feeding schedule with winter’s onset creating congestion on hot feeding areas like your food plot or a local agriculture field. Unfortunately, this creates overcrowding at these sites, making them nearly impossible to access….
> Instead of risking bumping deer at these sites, return to your Oct hunting strategy when bucks oftentimes disappear after the bachelor-group breakup period. Hunt them along travel corridors removed from food sources.
> Your encounters will likely be in thicker cover and earlier as bucks rise from bedding in a sanctuary to weave their way to a food source. The key is not to set up too close to refuge.
> …skip the morning and hunt the afternoon. By skipping the morning you allow nocturnal feeding deer to return to bedding cover uninterrupted at dawn. Before they return to the afternoon chow line, you settle into your ambush position for their dusk arrival.
